HF Alky Regeneration Heat ExchangerPictured—HF Alky Regeneration Heat ExchangerLamons was tasked with sealing a Heat Exchanger that had been leaking for almost 20 years which utilized standard double jacketed gasket technology in conjunction with standard B7 fasteners. 

Exchanger was leaking both steam from the shell side and isobutane (feed product for Alkylation unit) from the tube side.

We proposed using:

  • Lamons CorruKamm gaskets due to their resilience and recovery in high cycling environments
  • SPC4 Load Indicating Stud Technology – Intelligent Fasteners where torque can be validated by indicating the load applied
  • Belleville washers




Unit has not leaked in 22 Thermal Cycles

RoHS stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. RoHS, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, it restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products. Lamons does not supply components intended for those uses.

Additionally, Lamons does not supply components that inhibit compliance with EMA/410/01. Furthermore, products produced and supplied to our customers are within the operating guidelines of California’s Proposition 65.

Nubbins were traditionally machined onto Heat Exchanger flange facings with the concept that a smaller sealing surface area would require less clamp load to effect a seal. This nubbin is normally 1/64" high by 1/8" wide. Because of the need for a reduced clamp load by use of the nubbin in concentrating the bolt load, many times, flanges with nubbins call for smaller and less bolts.

For flanges with nubbins, Double-Jacketed gaskets have historically been used to effect a seal. As processes have become more rigorous introducing higher temperatures and cycling effects, radial shear has become an issue. Many end-users have invested significantly in machining off nubbins. Lamons has developed and extensively tested our CorruKamm™ gasket in cycling applications utilizing nubbins.

CorruKamm™ is Heavy machined 3/32” thick core faced with .020” APX2 graphite. A machined profile, not formed, allows for correcting alternated geometry strategically indexed and aligned so that deflection occurs. The result is maximum stability, recovery, resiliency, deflection and conformance.

On March 22, 2018, President Trump signed a memorandum announcing that the United States would take multiple steps to protect American technology and intellectual property from certain discriminatory and burdensome trade practices by China. These actions were announced following a report by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) regarding China's acts, policies and practices with respect to technology transfer, intellectual property and innovation. Therefore, effective July 6, 2018, the U.S. will be imposing a 25% tariff on certain finished good products imported from China under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974.

The Lamons impacted items are:

  • Spiral Wound Gaskets
  • LP3 Gaskets
  • Ring Joint Gaskets

Due to this tariff implementation, there may be items you purchase from Lamons that could be affected by this tariff. Please contact your Lamons Sales Representative for the changes to your affected products. The pricing changes will be effective July 9, 2018.
